Buff-breasted Tody-Tyrant
Location
Serra da Baturité, Brazil
Date taken
September 2017
Scientific name
Hemitriccus mirandae
Lovely! Why are these birds termed 'tyrants'?
From the family name Tyrannidae - ‘tyrant’ was coined by Linnaeus (who classified these birds) - some species in the group are formidable defenders of their territory- so perhaps they were named after ‘an oppressive ruler’!?
