Building materials (Sitta europaea)

Birchbark is useful for many things. It's used as a base when making sod roofs. It can be used as paper. It's good tinder for starting a fire. It's used to wrap willow flutes so they last longer. It's used for weaving baskets. Vikings used it to make leg armour. Of course, birch trees have their own uses for it. And apparently it's also a nesting material.
