Bush Stone-curlew, Burhinus grallarius - also sometimes known as Bush Thick-knee, as Bill says. It's not a Plover, but like the Plovers, it nests on the bare ground, relying on camouflage for safety. In many of the settled parts, especially on the east coast, it has vanished entirely from its former range due to a combination of habitat destruction (clearing) and the effects of introduced animals, especially foxes and cats. It is listed as vulnerable in South Australia. I'm not sure what its status is in West Australia, but as it's a mainly coastal bird, I imagine that it faces the same pressures there, with farming and urban development taking up more and more of its habitat.

This is a splendid shot, well done!

Endangered here as well, have only seen them in the local Sancturies in pairs so hope they can breed!
Two great shots, thanks for sharing!

Nice shot. Also cute to see the bird feeling sleepy infront of camera. Lately we have one rare visitor to Sydney suburb. Too bad that it did not take long before it was attacked by a dog. No wonder it is getting rare.
