... another individual
was desperately
trying to break in ...

... Making
several attempts
But ...
... ultimately had
to give up and
move away ...
Camera for this shot
was hand-held and
angle and height of
the subjects were very
difficult ...
Fortunately ...
the intervening leaf
did not much obscure
the detail ...

Amazing shot of what must be fairly unusual behavior. They only have a few days to mate, so it can't be common for a male to waste energy trying to break in on a couple already locked together. But then again, they don't get a second, more experienced season, so maybe they really are that confused about how it's done ;)
