California Condor 22 Soaring (Gymnogyps californianus)

This was a truly magnificent sight watching this incredibly large bird soar at the Grand Canyon. His wingspan is about 3 meters and the wings looked about 1 meter from the front edge to the back. He was very graceful for something so large, and flew with very little effort. We could see very subtle movements of his primary feathers as he covered great distances in very short times.

Very nice capture. They are fun to watch and photograph. My brother was involved in the original capture and release of these birds, from the late '70's throught the '80's. I, yearly, go to the Bitter creek range to watch them. Well done. A touch more contrast on the canyon walls would make this a grand shot. :t: :t: :t:
