California Darner

California Darner (Rhionaeschna californica)

Besides admiration for another wonder of the natural world, my point here is that dragonflies are completely harmless to humans, neither stinging nor biting. On the rare chance one should land on you, take advantage and admire it; it wants to rest or sun itself. (Not to mislead you, I net and release them as part of an ongoing wetland inventory, near home. When he was ready, he flew off strongly.)

Great close-up, Steve. I love these critters (dragons, darners, damsels, all of 'em) but I rarely get to see them here where it's so high and dry. ;) Can't imagine how difficult it must be to net such delicate creatures. Thanks for sharing!
