Camera shy Golden Oriole

Camera shy Golden Oriole (Oriolus oriolus)

I was taken by surprise to see this in the garden on May 1st. It looked quite bedraggled and was very hungry. I think it may have just arrived. As the day wore on it got a little less camera shy and continued to return to the loquat tree to eat.

That's no fair!!!! I spent hours staring up into trees looking for these guys, and couldn't spot a one!!! I knew they were there 'cos I could hear them!!! All I eventually saw was a female chasing a Red-backed Shrike away! (not a bad sighting actually LOL)

What a great picture to get of this guy - what a wonderful start you've made to your Gallery Snicka. I'll look forward to seeing some more of your pictures.

.How great to have an Orange tree for them to feast on. Nicely captured

Thank you guys and yes I was jumping up and down when I saw it. The tree is a nispero or loquat which is common here. It's on the patio just a metre from the glass doors which have just been installed in front of the old solid ones and now I can watch the birds on it. I have lived here for several years but never spotted an oriole. So glad to have people to share the enthusiasm with! Here is another photo but not so clear. https://goo.gl/photos/oxTwNzA2pMoCjaNy6

Wow I'd have liked to see a female, especially one chasing a red-backed shrike Delia! Where was it that you saw them?
