Candlestick bird, aka long-billed curlew

Candlestick bird, aka long-billed curlew (Numenius americanus)

If it hadn't been for the noise the crows were making I might not have paid enough attention to this one to see they were something unusual and special. This bird was landing on the grass and trying to relax (and probably look for food) but every time they landed the crows would eventually come and harass them. Several times when the curlew took off and flew to a new spot it uttered the loveliest plaintive call.
Habitat
Grassy fields of a largish public park a bit south of downtown Seattle
Location
Jefferson Park, north Beacon Hill, Seattle WA, USA
Date taken
May 8, 2021
Scientific name
Numenius americanus
I have a few passable shots of this curlew on the ground. Might share one tomorrow. I hastily decided this was a long-billed curlew, then checked listings of recent Washington state bird sightings and saw lots of whimbrel sightings and not one curlew. Thought maybe I'd made a mistake. Looked and looked at identification data, almost determined to prove I was wrong, but everything I found made me more convinced I was not. Clincher was fact that whimbrels' bills are uniformly dark while curlews' are pinkish, and darker at the end. Check.
