Chilli Berries? (Bombycilla garrulus)

They were feeding on red hawthorn berries yesterday morning. Every now and again they dropped to the frozen ground to eat some ice. I guess more likely for some water rather than because the berries were too hot ;)
Location
Castle Eden Walkway, Billingham, Celveland.UK
Date taken
7th December 2008
Scientific name
Bombycilla garrulus
Equipment used
Canon 40D+Canon 400mm f5,6
Great capture Ian, In Edinburgh City centre there have been large flocks of Waxwings reported for weeks now one flock of 400 hangs out at the back of a Garage close to the city centre launching raids to local gardens and Supermarkets for the berry crop.

That middle one eats ice like I eat chilli's! lol

Ian, I had to laugh when I saw this; great documentary :t:

Great image. We've still got plenty around but there aren't so many berries left and they're mostly high up in the treetops.
