Citrus Butterfly 2
Here is another photograph of the Dingy Swallowtail. This one had a different colouring. The pictures are not too sharp because the camera is not that great and they usually emerge from the cocoon between midnight and before sunset.

Thanks to "aussietrev" for helping me name my babies.

For 2-3 seasons my orange plant served as a breeding ground for these butterflies to grow. At one there could be as many as 8 caterpillars on my plant.
unfortunately, my plant is no more... :( my cat killed it.

A loving spank to your naughty cat :)cat:)!!! ;)

That's a smasher of Butterfly, thanks a thousand for sharing!!! :t: :t: :t:

:) thank you all for you comments. I have more on Flickr, if anyone is interested.
- slight correction: they emerge between midnight and "sunrise" !!

@Marian: My cat would pee in the orange plant's pot each time she wanted to take revenge for any "injustice" done to her. My plant stuck it out for long...but it finally withered away years ago. What started out as a bonsai project, became a butterfly breeding ground in a concrete jungle. Miss it...
[My naughty cat just got back from the vet today. :( ]

The colour variations are male and female, never did like cats myself, now another reason to put on the list of why. Hope you get a new orange tree, use some cat repellent to save it, there are plenty on the market.

Hey trevor!
Hmmm...I didnt consider the male/female theory at all.
I love cats :D They try your patience but got to love their attitude.
I dint know about the cat repellent, will ask around. I will then have to worry about my toddler eating mud. Any anti-* solution for that? ;)

hey! In my quest to find out more about the moon moth, Isaac Khemikar of BNHS (http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/)
gave me the "proper" name for the swallowtails common mormons. :)
