Clapper Rail
I was just taking pictures of a Mottled Duck when this guy just appeared out of the reeds, took about 5 feet worth of steps and disappeared again in the reeds. Luckily I had the scope already trained on the duck so I just swung it over, or I never would have caught him.

I think that Rails are like the ghosts of the marsh. There usually quiet as they just go to and fro among the reeds. You don't really find Rails, they find you!

Iagree with what you say about these elusive birds Raven, you done a great job here m8 Super post thanks.

Nice catch. You said it perfectly, all my rail shots are accidental. In all other cases where I planned to capture shots of clapper rails, my success rate is so far zero.

Yeah Shark, I have had about the same luck when it comes to catching a Rail on demand. Over there in California there is talk about moving the (California/Pacific) Clapper Rail over into the King Rail species. They look so much darker I wouldn't be surprised. Thanks for all the kind words!
