Thank you all for your replies on this dove and my other dark background shots. I like them as it makes a difference from the normal bird on a stick shot. Again it is a very dark part of the forest with a thick canopy of leaves at to moment. I was very surprised to see this dove come down in this area. The photo I wanted was of a Wren in the same place but not to be today, tomorrow perhaps.
 
super image.i saw this guy the other day as i was walking home on a conifer tree along a little lane rather dark.took the picture got home and looked my iso was to low sitting at 8oo,the image was blurred on my movement and the birds.superbly captured.all the best margaret.
 
Outstanding! The lighting is magnificent and leads to a dramatic and effective shot.
 
This one is extraordinary John! The dark background sure looks beautiful with the light feathers that are so clearly seen.
