Coming in to roost (Calidris alba)

The Knot, Ringed Plover, Oystercatcher, Redshank, Turnstone, Purple Sandpiper and Dunlin were already roosting when in came the Sanderling. Around 80 of them have been roosting here over high tide. Such a small area to hold so many birds - around 300.

Date taken
10th February 2009
Scientific name
Calidris alba
Equipment used
Canon 40D+Canon 400mm f5,6
Superb shot,Ian!! Like the way the lighting works here, splitting up the birds in two halves. Great work. :t:
