Himalayas - 31
Ravage & Resilience

_______________________

...This used to be a
beautiful small
river in the
Himalayan foothills ...
Lovely in its setting
and backdrop ...
... and , rich in
bird-life ...

Now ...
There is a flourishing
Industrial township
along the River ...

And it flows
...barely
like a drain ...
mutilated and
maligned ...

Rivers in India '
big and small
are facing a tough
time

But ...
Nature is resilient...

At this very point
I had spotted
River Lapwings ...
... on our last visit
six years ago

... and during our
recent visit, as
I was locating that
spot to Renu ,
We noted a group
of them again ...

Thankfully, they have
stayed on ...
...in-spite of all
the devastation
inflicted to the
ecosystem ...

... A tractor trolley
was being filled up
with sand ...
scooped out of
The River-bed
...to be sold for
construction purpose ...
very close to
these birds
