Golden oriole (Oriolus oriolus)

A male golden oriole singing in a birch tree near a village. By carefully approaching the sound, I was able to track it down to a place where it sat in the open. Their song is a beautiful fluty whistle, but they also sometimes emit a screech that sounds a lot like a cat whose tail had been stepped on

They don't exist..... they don't, they don't!!!! Spent hours under trees where I could hear them, but couldn't see one, not a one!!! I'm sure someone was teasing me with recordings! ;)

What a cracking picture you've taken of this pretty guy Gleb, that must make for a lovely memory from a Russian trip.

Thanks! It actually took almost a full month of stalking it before I managed. Its call gives it away, but it is almost impossible to see unless it perches in the open. I was close three times, but on the first my neighbour scared it off (it was perched in a tree in front of my house), the second someone passing near a tree where it sat, and the third my battery ran out just as I searched for it. However, if you carefully approach the sound and scan the tree with binoculars, you might get lucky. Thank you!
