I'm seeing quite a few of this threatened species which alway makes me happy ;) The Pileated Woodpecker is the largest woodpecker in North America with the exception of the Ivory-billed Woodpecker if it still exists.

My favorite woodpecker and that is one super close-up KC. That poor guy is having a bad hair day, isn't he? More likely the wind caught his hair. It's been windy here too. Thanks for sharing!!

Great shot! Sadly, they're not the only threatened species. Just saw an Atteborough film about loss of biodiversity. Beautiful, as all his films are, but also very depressing :oops:
 
A wonderful portrait of this large woodpecker, KC! I think we can safely say that this is now the largest species of woodpecker but I'd love to be proved wrong.
