Aye, sadly we keep claiming birds' habitat for own use and they're increasingly not going to be able to produce their young as a result. Loads of birds were common 'round here say 30 years back that have almost disappeared. At this place, Hurworth Burn, which is about 2 miles from me, there's a fine selection of reed buntings, yellowhammers, goldfinches, green finches, owls, kestrels, fieldfares, redwings and many others all sharing similar space; and it's only because it's surrounded by fields with no houses for a good couple of miles radius and so not commercialised (yet!). Mind you, a lot of those farming fields were meadows less than 50 years ago so around that time a whole other type of bird would have been present as well.

Aye, lovely little birds to watch, Kits. 'Don't seem to sit in the same spot for long and when they do they're always moving from side to side with their tails going. I'm sure others will know that but I hadn't stood watching them before the last few days. Oh, and I always seem to see far more females for some reason!

A great capture of this reed bunting, Paul. Not an easy one through the twigs.
