Kinglet Crown Troubles

Kinglet Crown Troubles (Regulus calendula)

Two male kinglets found each other, and a great deal of flickering of crowns ensued. Unfortunately for me, it was at very high speeds, while hopping wildly from branch to branch, so I never had the camera on one when it had its crown up. This is the most red I got. It's remarkably identifiable for such a blurry bird.
Habitat
A patch of forest near water and a bit of prairie restoration effort.
Location
Berry Springs park, Central TX.
Date taken
Jan 29 2021
Scientific name
Regulus calendula
Equipment used
Nikon Coolpix p950
At least you can see it is a Ruby-crowned Kinglet, so good for a recored shot 🙂
Yes, that's the upside. And I have several nice, clear photos of this bird, just none with that crown showing. That can go on my list of goal photos- a shot of a kinglet with its crown up.

You got it all excited showing that red in this shot. Excellent job Tired!
Thank you for the nice words. It was definitely excited- another male had arrived. They were great fun to watch, hopping around between branches at lightning speed. I didn't see either of them actually dart at each other, but the fast motions from both parties started when the second arrived, and their little crowns were up every few seconds. Unfortunately, they moved deeper into the forest, away from the path, and I didn't want to frighten them by trying to chase after them.
