A very cold Black capped Chickadee (Poecile atricapillus)

How cold was it? It was so cold this poor little Black capped Chickadee had to put on his parka to try to stay warm... Thanks to a half-inch coat of insulating feathers, chickadees maintain their body temperature at 100° Fahrenheit during daylight hours, even when the air is at zero degrees. ..

Oh he is a little fluff ball! We have a blue tit roosting in one of our nest boxes and every night (there's a camera in there) he is all fluffed up like a ball.
 
splendid photo ofthis lovely chickadee with its fluffed up feathers, top marks, many tfs!!
