Common Darter (Sympetrum striolatum)

I was trying unsuccessfully to capture these in flight, but I've had a great deal of fun this summer watching and photographing the various species - gonna miss them over the winter months! Amwell is a great place for insects as well as birds.

Thanks Chryso. It's a male of the species, the female is a yellowish brown colour same as immature males. Guess that both sexes start the same but the male develops the red as it grows up!

Don't worry about the comments Al, get pleasure enough out of my hobby. I wish I could comment on every photo on the forum, but it's impossible - unless I never go to work - now, there's a thought ;)
