Common Grackle (Quiscalus quiscula)

On our journey back from my daughters in Reading, Pennsylvania, to my sons in Cary, North Carolina, we stopped off at a place called Alexandria, in Virginia. Walking along the waterfront and harbour there, I spotted a couple of birds, halfway hidden under an old low bridge. Unfortunately they refused to give me a good show, but I managed this one shot. I would loved to have seen these birds right out in the sun, as they have some incredible colours amongst their dark plumage.
