Common Grackle

Common Grackle (Quiscalus quiscula)

We've had quite a few of these birds through here during migration this fall and in fact for a few days had a flock of hundreds of them in the tops of the White Pines. They sweep through the garden feeding, hitting the suet and sunflower feeders then something alarms them and with a whoosh they are all off to a different spot. They'd sweep through the garden a few times a day like that while in the area.

I just love the colors of these birds when the light catches them just right. Like Starlings they are common but most beautiful birds.

I don't recall seeing one of these before. A beautiful capture in the sun, Deanne. :king:

simply the best photo I've ever seen of that bird, which is usually dismissed with just a glance. You caught the iridescence beatifully.

Wow, you really caught the colors on him. Fantastic photo.

Excellent capture, Deanne. You've really shown this Grackle at his (or her) best. Individuals are constant visitors here during the nesting season, then they disappear until snowy weather causes huge flocks to descend on the feeders.
