Common loon stretching

Common loon stretching (Gavia immer)

Due to the late spring thaw of lakes here in MN, loons gathered in unprecedented numbers on area lakes. Long-time birders said they'd never seen such a spring buildup of loons, especially here in a metro area. They were here for the better part of a week. It was fun to watch and listen to them. I love it when they stretch their feet out behind them like this.

A fantastic shot.
There should be a law about calling birds Common. These are not common anywhere near to Cheltenham.

Great birds! Not a common sight in Sweden, mostly seen in winter. We've got the Black Throated Loon instead. Thanks for showing. Well done

Heh, yes I guess "common" is a relative term. The Common Loon is our state bird here in MN. It's also known as the Great Northern Diver, but nobody here calls them that as far as I know.

I've just come across this Loon waving to you in a Loony way (;)) and I think it is a marvelous picture!!! :bounce: Very good job, Liz, very well caught!!! :loveme:
