This image was taken from a kayak. The loon would dive under the water, and I would paddle in the direction the the bird last looked. I was able to get close enough behind it where I could see that it was banded. I was able to get a photo of some of the numbers on the band. Turns out this loon was banded in Wisconsin which is over 400 miles away.
