It's always nice to see these guys swimming across the water especially when they're within reach of my lens LOL.

Had to lighten this one quite a bit, but at last got to see where the eye is;)

Seems I need to do some work on understanding the settings in bright sun, but not sure when I'll get another opportunity with this awful weather system we've been suffering!

Well done. The eye is clearly visible. Guess you got your fun with the camera.
Pictures of landscapes can be realized with f16 as well.:-O

High contrast images are always tricky. Can you choose between single-spot metering and multi-spot metering on your camera? That might be the simplest thing to start with, if you can set it for single-spot metering and then just be sure that you keep that spot on the bird. Still ... even with the high contrast, the camera adjusting for the greatest area (the water) rather than the area of interest (the bird), and then lots of post-process lightening to recover details in the bird (which does at least work, whereas darkening to recover details does not work at all) ... this turned out quite nice. Maybe not all the color and details you were hoping for, but a lovely peaceful image with a sweet pose and all those rings on the water |=)| No need to apologize for this one. It's very soothing to gaze upon :t: :t:

Shooting into the sun is always a killer! No matter what you do PP it never gives you what you want. I'll post a Flickr shot tomorrow that was heavily shadowed only because I never see these guys. Reduce the shadows too much and it gives this grainy look that isn't pleasant at all! Thanks for sharing this one Delia!!

Playing around with metering settings is still something I have to get on to. It's a never-ending learning curve!!
