Common Nighthawk (Chordeiles minor aserriensis) Twelve subspecies have been described with 8 or 9 being recognized dependent upon author. Four are mapped for Texas with aserriensis breeding from South-central Texas to northern Mexico. These four subspecies can usually be separated by geographical location. Sexes similar. Photographed in the Fred B. Jones Sanctuary west of Portland and northwest across the Nueces Bay from Corpus Christi, San Patricio County, Texas, USA. A small 3.64 hectare (9 acre) tract with remnant South Texas shrub in the Gulf Prairies and Marshes Vegetation Area surrounded by farmland and residential development at ca. 12 m (39 ft) elevation.
