Common Nighthawk (Chordeiles minor aserriensis) Twelve subspecies have been described with 8 or 9 being recognized dependent upon author. Four are mapped for Texas with aserriensis breeding from South-central Texas to northern Mexico. These four subspecies can usually be separated by geographical location. Sexes similar. A small 3.64 hectare (9 acre) tract with remnant South Texas shrub in the Gulf Prairies and Marshes Vegetation Area surrounded by farmland and residential development at ca. 12 m (39 ft) elevation.
