Common Snipe (Gallinago gallinago)

This the second of two Life list birds photographed in one day. This is the only image of this bird I have. Not ideal but it fits the description of this birds habitat in Sibley's. It was found in exactly the descriptive habitat of the field guide. Once again, I would not have know it had the bird not been brought to my attention by my brother. If you ever go birding in California he is a must to have along. He will put your lense right on the bird and make it pose for you.
Habitat
Open field; ponds; open woods; surrounded farm land
Location
Kern Valley Wildlife Reserve: Kern Co., CA. USA
Date taken
Jan 2009
Scientific name
Gallinago gallinago
Equipment used
Canon 30D: EF 500 L IS USM @ 4.0 : 1/160 @ f 7.1 : ISO 500, fill flash Canon 580 EX, exp comp 1/4 power : white bal 5738K: metering mode, partial : RAW light room, cs2, neat : monopod
Awesome image... Love the background and setting. Sounds like your brother really has a good eye. Thanks for the post! :t:
