Common Swift (Apus apus)

I know some of you don't know or care about the technical side of things, but for those that are interested:

I tried a few different options for the Swifts yesterday; all bar one involved panning with the bird (makes you dizzy ;))

The one I uploaded yesterday was using Shutter Priority; allowing for the panning, 1/1600th was fast enough - This one was using Aperture Priority; I sacrificed a bit of shutter speed for more depth of field (F7.1 - 1/1250th vs F5.6 - 1/1600th on the other one)

Even allowing for this one being a heavier crop, I think the other pic turned out better. So, unless the bird is flying towards me, I won't worry about depth of field next time

Super inflight image Chris, interesting settings details too, tfs both. The 1/250th option has certainly worked well in this light.

Oh my! Well done!!! I've given up even trying on Swifts. Maybe I should give it a go with the Nikon - faster manual focus, and "easier" to track with >400mm instead of >2400. Even so, I doubt I'd do this well :S

A cracker this Chris.... very well done lad.

My problem is actually getting my camera to 'see' the birds when they're up in the sky.
