Okay, well I guess I might be the one to pack up my gear. ;)

An excellent hovering capture.

Luckiest shot of the day. I was sat in a hide with another member from this site, Andy Byron, he spotted it behind me, almost straight up and only about ten yards away (if that). I only exposed it so well because of his advice in the run-up to it.

This hover led to a catch, right in front to us. It was the first time I'd seen it so close, so I didn't lift my camera for the kill. To be perfectly honest, I was a little awestruck!

Magnificent!!....now why can't I get a shot like this when Im at Rutland! o:):t::t:

From the bird centre, head left, keep walking right down to the far end, past the new construction area, down past the bull field and into the first hide in that area. Looking out in the direction of Oakham is the best place for action so far. lapwings, terns, great black cormorants, red kites, hobbies, gadwalls, shelducks, gulls etc etc... It's a really good hide at the moment, full of life :)

Excellent flight/hover shot. Think I might pack it in along with KC. :t: :t:

A cracking flight shot Mr Custard. Nice and sharp with loads of detail. It's good to see someone else using the E-510 70-300 combination. Now why can't I get a tern shot like that?

Cheers for the comments everyone :)

NoSpringChicken, the 70-300 is a really good lens considering the price. The only reason I don't have more BiF shots is due do the lens's main failing, awful AF speed and hunting. I've taken thousands and thousands of shots with it so far and have decided to upgrade to the Sigma 135-400, I'm waiting for it at the moment.

When it comes to terns, luck is key. I've sat around for days and only seen the terns hunting at a distance, then, all of a sudden, one will just appear right in front of you. It's all luck........it's what I love about bird photography, the lottery!
