Thank you all for your kind comments. I didn't mention that I have two almost identical shots - the one above, showing the translucent nictitating membrane partially covering the eye, and one with the eye as it normally appears. I chose this one to post as it looks (to me anyway) a bit comical. I know that's rather unfair to the bird!

Thanks for the URL. I agree! A nice shot, and would also have been good for a Saturday Fun chuckle. But I'm happy for a chuckle mid-week as well :-O
