This small, dark subspecies, also known as the San Francisco or Salt Marsh Yellowthroat (subspecies G. t. sinuosa) has reportedly declined by 8095% because of urbanization and habitat loss. The "salt marsh" name is a bit of a misnomer because they breed primarily in freshwater marshes, moving to salt marshes only after nesting.
