Well ... this being taken in the US, those could be Double-crested Cormorants. Then again, Maine being on the North Atlantic, they could also be Great Cormorants. Then again ... October? Great Cormorants are only vagrants there in Winter and then only on the ocean shore. On an inland lake one would only expect Double-cresteds. So, tentatively, congrats on yet another lifer |=)|
