Couch's Kingbird
Couch's Kingbird is very difficult to distinguish from the almost identical Tropical Kingbird. Best distinguished by voice. Couch's has a sharp "pit" and a long "pit-wheeeer." Tropical has a rapid twitter. Unfortunately this one was silent, but I judged it to be Couch's based on the thick base to its bill. Also the paler brown tail with shallower terminal notch is supportive of Couch's. Both species are now fairly common in this area with Tropical increasing in recent years. Formerly lumped with Tropical Kingbird. Corrections and/or comments always welcome.
