Crested Hawk Eagle

Crested Hawk Eagle (Nisaetus cirrhatus)

Shot this beauty for well over half an hour...it was basking in the warm morning sunlight. We bagged several lifers and endemic beauties on our visit last month to Amrabad Tiger Reserve about five hours drive away. Luckily we did not come across any bears, leopards or tigers...phew!!! Most of our birding was on foot keeping close to the road..we did venture couple of hundred yards deep, spotted some wildlife..mostly herbivores... but retreated due to lack of strength in numbers...just the two of us.... the local forest guards did warn us about bears.... which are common around those parts. We were lucky about the timing too....most of the trees had shed their leaves and few in in full bloom with beautiful flowers...all flowers no leaves!!! The lack of leaves did give us a clear view of the various raptors, owls, woodpeckers, hornbills etc with ease!!! This one is a lifer and my eighth raptor species shot in South India.
