Crimson Chat (Epthianura tricolor)

This attractive male Crimson Chat, as well as his duller partner have drawn quite a number of birders around Sydney lately when they were found in a park close to Sydney (in fact, next to a city rail station).

Crimson Chat are normally found in the outback of Australia and this is truely a rare opportunity for Sydneysiders.

(Two years ago, a closely related Orange Chat also turned up unexpectedly in Sydney area. That time I dipped the bird and injured my leg muscles. So this is the payback time with interests)

Strangely the habitat where they are found is more like a dog's playground, which I would not imagine as a place to look for birds.
