Crimson Topaz and Fiery-throated Topaz

Crimson Topaz and Fiery-throated Topaz (Topaza pella, Topaza pyra)

Another John Gould style illustration, showing my favourite hummer and it's fiery-throated relative(on the right).
I have been doing some research into the Fiery-thoated Topaz (or the Inca topaz) and have found that it is often considered a seperate Genus and is found around SE Colombia, E Ecuador and NE Peru to NW Brazil (R Negro) and S Venezuela. John Gould was the first person from the West to discover and illustrate Topaza pyra in 1846, i think he would have most definetly laughed at my attempt!;)
Thanks for looking everyone, this one's for you Bernard, as you like sub-species:t:
Scientific name
Topaza pella, Topaza pyra
Equipment used
watercolour pencil's
Thanks Steve, Doux, Easty for your kind comments.
Yes Doux, you are right, hummers are often named after precious gems (they are known as the jewels of the avian world) there are lot's of them Sapphires, Ruby's, Emeralds, Topaz and the infamous Rainbow Starfrontlet (which you will see soon;))
Easty, love your comment...inflammed throat..lol;):-O Im not 100% sure why they are classed seperate, i think it has something to do with nesting rituals and so forth, but as far as looks go they are very similar.
Thanks again folks:t::t::t:

Beautiful flowing composition Sam - Your work and that of other BF members keeps at bay the post holiday blues, as did finding spring in full swing. (Thanks for comment to my pic).
