Crossbills save the day

Crossbills save the day

Prior to this, I was torn between Lakenheath (because I saw a crane there from the train) and Thetford Forest. I ultimately chose the forest, and despite a few nice birds being seen completely failed to see lesser spotted woodpecker and woodlark, as well as my ancient camera failing to photograph a kingfisher, a goshawk and sparrowhawks. And that's when a crossbill flock intervened. They were almost as if waiting for me to take pictures, sitting motionless in the trees and sometimes staring at me. Unlike with anything else, I have never seen a crossbill before, so this was even better!
