Dark-eyed Junco (Junco hyemalis)

My winter flock of these delightful birds has arrived for the season and they are such charmers. I seem to have quite a few of them this year but with fewer Song and White-throated Sparrows traveling with the mixed Sparrow flock. I hope to see some American Tree Sparrows and Field Sparrows in with this flock this winter.

I'm rubbing my hands thinking on the beautiful pics you might show us during next winter! ;)

Great photo!! I love the juncos--I'll be glad when we get more of them--there's only been 1 here so far this winter--guess it's just not cold enough yet. :t::t:

Haa.. Great to have some Deanne art in the gallery again. Totally new gear. This is a great start! ;) :t:

Stunning Deanne - beautiful detail - this must be one of my favourite little birds that I have never seen! :t::t::t:

Thanks again all for your kind comments!

Marise, if I had to pick out a favorite garden bird this one would be it. They are such fun to observe going about their little birdie lives. I can always tell when the flock is coming in because of their distinctive voices. First one will show up then a couple more and then the next thing there is a flock of twenty or more. I'm always so happy when the Juncos show up in the fall.
