Double-barred Finch

Double-barred Finch (Taeniopygia bichenovii)

These tiny finches are only about 10cm in size and are quite nervous buy nature. They are common along eastern and northern Australia and are a little nomadic. This little guy was found in an area I regularly visit at this time of the year. It was good to see about eight of them and I was pleased to capture a descent close-up, not easy to do with their twitchy demeanour.

:bounce: Gorgeous little fellow in a beautiful portrait, John!!! o:) :t:  And love that polka dot pattern in the wings!!!

These guys are a bit tricky to capture well, as even when you get a real good photo opportunity the feather structure around the face makes it always looks like it has been over processed. Nice catch Jon

Very beautiful eye level shot. lovely close-up. probably you needed the 1120mm to get a full frame of this tiny looking bird !! Great details here. TFS.
