I find that hard to believe, Roly, as I live about 4 miles from the Kent border. Surely somewhere like the Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve would have downy emerald? They're not infrequent here in Lingfield (I see an emerald of one sort or another most years, and have had brilliant in my garden, too).
Good luck,
Ken

Hello again Ken,the only one I,ve seen was at Leonards Lee Gdns,on the day they were closing and it didn,t stop.I can soon find out if the Sevenoaks Reserve has any, as its the reserve run by Kent Wildlife Trust,of which I,m a member. So a quick email should put my mind at rest.
Roly :-C

Better hurry - the season won't last all that much longer. But there's always next year.
Good luck,
Ken

PS Just looking at the Surrey Atlas, most of the occurrences are in the west and south of Surrey. However three occupied tetrads close Kent in the SE of Surrey hold out some hope for SW Kent - but perhaps Sevenoaks is being a bit optimistic. K

Hello again Ken, just thought I,d let you know that I contacted Susanna at K.W.T Sevenoaks and "bingo" "Downy,s "are there,so I,m off a.s.a.p to try my luck. Many thanks for the suggestion. :-O
