Downy woodpecker tongue
Snapped at just the right time, this image shows the female Downy woodpecker tongue. Mother was gathering suet for her youngster, who was in a maple tree just east (to the right) of the suet feeder. Mother, father, and their young ward are frequent visitors lately!
