Downy Woodpecker (Picoides pubescens)

Foraging on the trunk of a mature Eucalyptus (Blue Gum), this female Downy Woodpecker appears to be manipulating what I suspect is a Longhorned Borer Beetle grub. These introduced beetles are known to attack eucalyptus trees in California.
Location
Pacifica, San Mateo County, California, USA.
Date taken
22 July 2020
Scientific name
Picoides pubescens
Equipment used
Canon PowerShot SX60 HS
A very well detailed behavioural shot, Joseph.
