This member of the thrush family breeds throughout the eastern United States and across southeastern Canada. It winters in Mexico and across the southern United States as far north as New Jersey where the climate is usually not too harsh. However, its numbers can be greatly reduced when there are severe winter snowstorms.
The Eastern Bluebird has also been seriously threatened by introduced species (such as the European Starling and House Sparrow) that have driven it from its natural tree cavity nesting sites. Thanks to bird boxes, this beautiful bird is now making a nice recovery.
