Eastern Towhee (Pipilo erythrophthalmus)

An Eastern Towhee at Marie J. Desonier nature preserve was reluctant to be photographed, but this one at Burr Oak State Park (Ohio) was much more willing.

If they have personalities like their western cousins, the Spotted Towhees, then they're not the most willing of posers, no. But they will stand their perch. I once threaded myself up into a shrub where I could glimpse one and got some nice shots of the bird just inches away, although still partly hidden by dense twigs.
