Elegant Tern (Thalasseus elegans)

Juveniles, such as this, migrate long distances away from breeding grounds. The amount of dark mottling varies in juveniles. This individual has the maximum amount. This species normally breeds no closer than southern California but more than 90% of the world's population breed in a single colony on Isla Rasa in the Sea of Cortez, Mexico.
