He's a beautiful colour, isn't he. 'Emerald' is such an apt name for this beetle.

Wow! Stunning creature :eek!: Aaaaand ... I finally followed my curiosity and looked up the etymology of "chafer beetle". Was it because they're vaguely the shape of a heating tray? Nope! Beetle comes from Old English "bytl" or "little biter". Chafer comes from a proto-Germanic word for jaw and is about them gnawing. I couldn't see the connection from "kabraz" to modern "jaw", but some of the steps in between, like "Kfer" rung a clear bell, as does "chafer" now: the Norwegian word for jaw is "kjeve" (pronounced sort of like chay-vuh, although the initial ch- sound is different, made with the back of the tongue and much softer than an English ch.
