Emperor Penguin Feeding Sequence, Aptenodytes forsteri
Emperor Penguin, Aptenodytes forsteri, feeding sequence: Left, chick begging; middle and right, adult regurgitating and chick taking food. On the sea ice at Cape Washington, Ross Sea, Antarctica. Most of these penguins (colony of 300,000) have never seen a human before and they are quite fearless.
Expedition rules in the Antarctica are that visitors must stay at least 4.5m (15ft) away from the wildlife. But the Penguins don't know this and when you stand still they will come right up to you as they are inquisitive and free from fear.

What a superb behaviour sequence, this must have been an amazing experience for you, Carole-Anne. The Emperor Penguin are amazing birds, they way they brood the egg all through the harsh Antarctic winter, for me that is an amazing feat...:t:

Wonderful presentation of this superb behavioural sequence. A splendid composition Carole-Anne.

Wonderful presentation indeed. Fearless behavior can be observed with other juvenile birds (animals) as well; always an interesting and fascinating fact. Great description and an awesome sequence.
