Endangered Teal. (Anas bernieri)

This image was taken on the west coast of Madagascar which is the only remaining habitat of the Bernier,s Teal to breed. They say they are on the verge of extinction with aprox 1000-1500 birds left in the wild. Habitat is the main problem with the mangroves where they breed being cut down for firewood. Captive breeding has been successful in some countrys for the Bernier,s Teal so there may be a little bit of light on the horizon.(can only Hope)

A great find for you Peter and a super picture you've taken of this pair.

The British Birdfair in August, is going to be highlighting habitat loss in Madagascar - not before time by the sounds of it.
