enjoying the sun. (gallinula chloropus)

still three in this little family of moorhens and their all doing well.think sometimes the first broods do well because at this time of year the raptors, gulls and corvids here are all busy with nesting so not as many threats around.was rather cold yesterday but we did have some nice sunshine in between the clouds and these little guys did enjoy it.

What a cutey! It is an eternal battle, isn't it - the raptors timing their nesting so as to have lots of easy prey when the chicks need feeding, and the prey species timing their nesting earlier so their young are fledged and skilled at flying by then ... but not so early as not to have the insects they prey on. Luckily, it all balances out in the end.
